Authors Are Rockstars Tour Stop- Top Ten with Author Alyxandra Harvey + Giveaway

Hello!
~insert me freaking out~
Since I don't want to embarrass myself more than I have already with all the excitement I've felt ever since I knew Fiktshun and Two Chicks on Books were hosting this AMAZING and MIND BLOWING "Authors are Rockstars Blog Tour"

I'll just say that.
I.AM.SO.FREAKING.EXCITED. To be one of the stops!
I can't even tell you or express how happy I was when I got picked!

Now, without rambling more than necessary;

[Credits for the authors are rockstars button go to PJ and Fiktshun]

Yes! That's right my beautiful people!
The fabulous author Rockstar that's stopping by the blog today is none other than,

ALYXANDRA HARVEY

Now, let me tell you why I think she's a rockstar.

I have NEVER EVER in my life read anything by her, nor have I ever even dared to stalk her on twitter or on her site or any other way.
But she has managed to make me crave her books so bad. With teasers from book friends here, and with tortures of blogger friends there... Be them from her 'The Drake Chronicles' or her 'Haunting Violet' book or even 'Stolen Away.'

I might have never read her work or know her writing style but I'm sure as the clouds in the heavens DYING to meet all the characters this amazing author Rockstar Alyxandra Harvey has created.

With phrases like this one,

“Not me." He bent his head, voice dropping to a husky whisper. "Never me.”

Or this one,

“Tucking my nose into a book makes me completely oblivious to my surroundings. I would have made a terrible spy in the army--the first person to hand me a novel would have been able to shoot my head clean off without me noticing.”

Or more recently...

“Oh Crap," Connor muttered. "She's going Darth Vader on us.”

Of COURSE I'd be dying to know just what books this author Rockstar reads in order to be so hilarious yet so... ~sighs~ Swoony!

But...
Guess what???
She's here to tell us EXACTLY that!
Oh my clouds! I can't wait to know her top 10 books... Can you?

Alyxandra Harvey's Top Ten Favorite Books

Thanks so much Alyxandra for taking a bit of your time and share this with us!!

AH: Some of my Favourite Books

The Wood Wife, Terri Windling
My favourite book ever. It’s rich and magical and deliciously layered. It has poetry and mystery and the feel of the best animistic fairy tales of old.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Laini Taylor
I am evangelical about this book. I’ve bought a copy for most of my friends. I love Karou, the details, and the switch to fantasy for the last half. I cannot say enough good things.

The Dreaming Place, Charles de Lint
I love that this takes place in Ottawa where I often visited my best friend during the summer. I love Ash and her story and de Lint`s writing.

Memory and Dream, Charles de Lint
The first of his books I ever read. I adored the characters and the art and the way the fantasy world and the modern world are just the blink of an eye away from each other.

Solstice Hill, Patricia McKillip
McKillip’s writing is so poetic and beautiful I just want to wear it like a dress, especially in this modern fantasy/fairy tale.

The Bell at Sealey Head, Patricia McKillip
I loved that this fantasy novel isn`t medieval (though I love a good medieval story). It has vaguely 1700s/1800s feel to it which is such a nice change.

The Shadowy Horses, Susanna Kearsley
This book combines some of my favourite things: archeology, Scotland, ghosts and historical fiction.

Mariana, Susanna Kearsley
I have a thing for stories about people moving to a house in the middle of the countryside…especially the English countryside. Add a past life story and I am utterly hooked.

The Eagle and the Raven, Pauline Gedge
This story of Boudicca is enormous and richly detailed. Highly recommended!

Ysabel, Guy Gavriel Kay
I love Celtic history, Provence, history, fantasy and good writing…so how could I not love this book?

Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
I admit I had a hard time getting into it when I read it in university. It felt slow and dry but the more I read, the funnier it became, and the more desperate I was to find out how Elizabeth, the best heroine ever, would end up with Mr. Darcy, the yummiest hero ever.

PB: T_T I fail! What does it say about me that out of all your favorite books I've only ever read ONE!  Though hehehe I have to agree words just aren't enough to describe the amazigness that Daughter of Smoke and Bone was/is.

Also, I've tried to read Jane Austen but it just doesn't want to happen T_T
And... Don't think I didn't notice the cheating in there hehehe Top 11 perhaps? :D

*-* Any of you have read all these books?!!!
Hehe.

Thank you again to Alyxandra Harvey for sharing and to Rachel (Fiktshun) and Jaime and Patricia (Two Chicks on Books) for hosting this AMAZING event!

Now. If the post wasn't enough ~hehe~
I'll leave you with the author's Bio and some links to stalk her ^_^

Alyxandra Harvey lives in a stone Victorian house in Ontario, Canada with a few resident ghosts who are allowed to stay as long as they keep company manners. She loves medieval dresses, used to be able to recite all of The Lady of Shalott by Tennyson, and has been accused, more than once, of being born in the wrong century. She believes this to be mostly true except for the fact that she really likes running water, women’s rights, and ice cream.

Among her favourite books are ‘The Wood Wife’ by Terri Windling, ‘Jane Eyre’ by Charlotte Bronte, and of course, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen. Elizabeth Bennet is her hero because she’s smart and sassy, and Mr. Darcy is, well, yum.

Aside from the ghosts, she also lives with husband and their dogs. She likes cinnamon lattes, tattoos and books.

  2. Oh Alba I love the quotes you picked! And your excitement for this author. You must read her books, especially the Drake Chronicles as I know you'll absolutely love at least one of those boys. Maybe a few.

I am such a fan of this author, but I, too, have only read one of those books - P&P and was not a fan. But I know I'll love DoSB as soon as I get the chance to read it. I heard it was epic.

I have heard of McKillip before so I may check out one of those books. I just love how your author has such an off-the-beaten-path selection of books.

And thank you for the wonderful book giveaway!

But most of all thank you so much for being a stop on the tour. We love that you are on this tour and that you could share your love of an author who is most definitely a rockstar! :)
